Before the appointment
What to bring
None of this is required. Any of it makes the hour more useful.
If it's a commission
Reference images of anything you like — and anything you actively don't. A ring that currently fits, for sizing. A realistic budget ceiling.
If it's an heirloom
The piece itself, and anything you know about its history. If there are several pieces, bring all of them; they're often better together than apart.
If it's a second opinion
The grading certificate and the written quote. Both matter — the certificate tells me what the stone is, the quote tells me how it's being priced.
If it's a collection review
Existing appraisals, your insurer's schedule if you have it, and the pieces you're least sure about.
